Combining Technology and Teaching

Today’s teacher needs to be one who recognizes the changing world of teaching as technology creeps further and further into the classroom. Indeed, technology actually causes the classroom to creep further out into the world. Teachers who do not see the value of adopting technologies to suit an improved learning environment will find the train will move on without them. David’s work in introducing higher quality, video-based teaching methods that teach theory outside of the classroom so that classroom time can be devoted to practical application of the theoretical knowledge has brought richer learning experiences for students.

David also keeps up on changing software titles and programming languages, which allow for custom courseware development and student portfolio development. Mediated Communication students need an outlet for their work that allows for potential employers to see what they have accomplished while in school. David applies his knowledge of HTML5, PHP, CSS, Javascript, WordPress, Flash, and the Adobe Creative Cloud suite of software titles to develop students’ portfolios (examples, www.floriwentzell.comwww.mckelldavis.com).

David has found that students respond well when their questions (in some cases, highly technical questions) can be answered by a professor who has experienced life in the industry. Students often respond with, “You know how to do that, too?” when David is able to solve a problem they encounter when working with software or hardware.
